6th Year Anniversary Dinner at Millennium Oakland

December 13, 2016 By RG @ Astig Vegan

Chris and I recently celebrated our 6th year anniversary. It didn’t feel like 6 years, it felt like 5 years and a half, j/k! Our years together flew by fast. It seems like it wasn’t so long ago when we had our first date at Millennium. He asked me out on a date and he told me he’ll treat me to any place that I’ve always wanted to visit but never have, so I chose Millennium. From then on, we go to Millennium every anniversary to commemorate our first date.

For appetizers, we got the Coriander & Arborio Crusted King Trumpet Mushrooms. We don’t go to Millennium without ordering this mushroom appetizer. We absolutely love this dish. As the second appetizer, Chris knows how much I love olives so he ordered marinated olives for me. Major brownie points for him –or should I say olive points.

We also got complimentary bread and lentil spread – so good! And complimentary bottomless sparkling water – so refreshing! As you notice, I don’t have photos for these appetizers. Chris and I just jumped in and I forgot to do my usual photo shoot.

For the main course, I got the Saffron Rice Risotto Cake and Chris got the Maple-Black Pepper Glazed Tempeh.

For dessert, our server gave us a freebie as a thank you for being gracious and patient with the people sitting nearby us. The guests were asking him to take their photos, which means he would have to get into our table space. Honestly, we didn’t mind at all.  They were just having a good time. After all, you go to Millennium for special occasions and naturally you would want to take photos. But the server apologized and said he didn’t want to keep taking our space, so he offered us a complimentary chocolate cake.

We had originally thought that a freebie would mean just plain chocolate cake, so Chris also ordered a scoop of pomegranate ice cream. Little did we know that the freebie will be the MOST phenomenal dessert I will have to date.

The supposed plain chocolate cake was actually more like a thick and moist chocolate brownie with dulce de leche syrup, white chocolate ganache, crisp chocolate nut bark with a side of mocha ice cream scoop on a bed of crushed hazelnuts. Guys, I’m not going by the menu description. I was going by what I remembered because it was that vivid! I got emotional in every bite and kept telling Chris how I loved the dish. You simply don’t get emotional with a plain dish, this dessert was the highlight of our anniversary meal. It arrived very pretty but as you could see, I already went in before remembering to take a photo.

The extra scoop of pomegranate ice cream was also a winner. But before we could dig into our pomegranate ice cream, our server briskly took it away from us. Chris and I chuckled because we were so ready to go for it and he just shut us down abruptly and randomly! He went back to our table but this time with a lit candle on the ice cream, which I thought was a really sweet gesture. He gave one of the best services we’ve gotten at Millennium. I think his name is Zack.  As for the pomegranate ice cream, it was creamy and rich. You could taste the ingredients. It wasn’t just sugary like most ice creams at commercial stores.

Before going to our dinner, I really thought this year’s anniversary would be more mellow compared to previous years. This anniversary fell on a Monday and Chris and I were both exhausted from work and with all the holiday festivities and chores. As it turns out, this year was one of the most memorable for me.

A sweet ending to our night was when the restaurant played my favorite romantic jazz songs as we ate our dessert. It really felt like a date. I am grateful for that meal and I am grateful for Chris, and I am grateful for our years together. I am definitely looking forward to many more anniversary meals at Millennium!
